Around one in every seven babies born in the UK are admitted to neonatal units every year. Many of these spend a week or less in hospital, but this isn’t always the case. Some parents can face weeks of waiting (and hoping and praying).

Now, imagine having weeks of uncertainty, AND being expected to attend work AND perform to a good enough standard, all whilstputting your game face on? That would be tough on even the hardiest of employees.

That’s why the new legislation coming into force on 6 April 2025 is such a welcomed step forward for working parents.

Whilst some of the detail is still in draft form, the essence of the statutory provisions shouldn’t change, and neither will your need to get ahead of the game.

We’ve designed a helpful neonatal care leave information sheet to summarise all the bits you need to know, right now. So, whether you want to understand the statutory leave and pay provisions in more detail or need some tips on how to prepare your organisation, join or log-in to our PeopleStreams Community Platform to access this free resource.

Keep your eyes peeled, too, for updated family leave policies and a brand-new addition to the platform – a template Neonatal Care Leave Policy.
