We’ve added a new video to the free resources area of PeopleStreams.

Devon Lovell, one of our London-based People Partners, and I (Communications Manager), discuss the ‘Right to Disconnect’ law in France and whether similar legislation could work in the UK.

Research shows that 64% of employees feel pressure to be constantly contactable for work via electronic devices.

In the video, Amy and Devon outline some more key statistics on topics such as employee burnout and wellbeing, highlighting why it’s so important for organisations to take action in this area. Devon talks about the working practices of employees during the pandemic and how these habits for many have transcended into everyday life now we have shifted to more remote ways of working, both in the UK and globally. We explore the ways that individuals find it hard to switch off from work and also why it’s important to do so.

In the video, Devon and I discuss:

  • What the Right to Disconnect law means in France and other European countries
  • How the Right to Disconnect legislation could help to tackle employee burnout
  • How legislation could help promote work-life balance
  • How a similar law might impact recruitment and retention
  • As well as potential pitfalls including its lasting impact on toxic workplace cultures
  • Its impact on areas such as flexible working
  • In addition its limitations in respect of productivity
